Will "Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A" Release on Nintendo Switch 2? Nintendo Finally Responds

With the announcement of the next-gen Nintendo Switch 2, anticipation isn't just building for the hardware specs and pricing details expected at the Nintendo Direct presentation held on April 2nd. Gamers are also buzzing about future game releases, specifically whether titles like "Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A" will be exclusive to the new console or launch on the current platform first. Nintendo has finally weighed in on the matter.

During a recent Nintendo investor Q&A, President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that "Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A," announced earlier in 2024, and "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond"—the long-awaited fourth installment in the Metroid Prime series, arriving after an 18-year hiatus—would still launch on the existing, original Nintendo Switch.

Furukawa emphasized that while the Nintendo Switch 2 is indeed slated for a 2025 release, Nintendo will continue to support the seven-year-old console as long as there's market demand for the original Nintendo Switch.

It's worth recalling that when the Nintendo Switch 2 was first announced, Nintendo highlighted its backward compatibility features. This means it's not out of the question that titles like "Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A" and "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond"—both slated for release this year—could eventually make their way to the new console after its launch. However, whether they'll receive performance upgrades on the new hardware or require specific updates for different console specs remains to be seen.
