Onimusha Way of the Sword Unveils Miyamoto Musashi as Protagonist, Features Late Toshiro Mifune's Likeness

While fans eagerly await the upcoming flagship title, "Monster Hunter Wilds," CAPCOM dropped another bombshell at today's PlayStation "State of Play" online showcase. The company unveiled a brand-new trailer for "Onimusha Way of the Sword," the latest installment in the beloved "Onimusha" series, confirming its release in 2026 and officially revealing Japan's legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, as the protagonist.

Even with a 2026 release date, the gameplay footage shown so far is incredibly impressive, particularly in its depiction of sword combat. Musashi's distinctive and unconventional sword techniques are on full display, showcasing his unique fighting style. In this iteration, Miyamoto Musashi gains extraordinary power from the "Oni Gauntlet." This mystical gauntlet not only grants him the ability to slay the Genma (demons) but also allows him to absorb their souls, transforming them into various abilities for its wearer.

According to CAPCOM's official press release, the protagonist's face model is based on the late, legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Miyamoto Musashi multiple times throughout his career.

"Onimusha Way of the Sword" is set in Kyoto, a city under siege by the malevolent Genma. These demons, who should rightfully dwell in the depths of hell, have now manifested in a Kyoto shrouded in miasma. They rampage indiscriminately, taking countless lives and plunging the ancient capital into a terrifying abyss of chaos.
