BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division of Japan has officially announced today the detailed information for the latest product from the new Gundam series anime "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX", the "HG 1/144 Light Cannon", from the 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its most diverse range of mobile suits. It is scheduled for release in July 2025.
In the "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" timeline, due to the "RX-78 Gundam" series mobile suits being captured and destroyed by the Principality of Zeon during the late stages of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces had no choice but to shift the focus of their mobile suit development plan to the "RX-77-2 Guncannon". Based on this, they developed the mass-produced light-armored specification "RGM-79 Light Cannon", which possesses both the close-quarters combat capabilities of the Gundam and the mid-range artillery capabilities of the Guncannon.
The "HG 1/144 Light Cannon" utilizes Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology to faithfully reproduce the unique design by Ikuto Yamashita. Its limb design is similar to that of the Gundam, with exposed frame structures visible on the thighs from the rear. The unique hip joint design is also perfectly recreated, allowing for dynamic poses with its legs. Armaments include a beam rifle and a beam saber, while the back-mounted cannon features a single-axis movable mechanism for adjusting its firing angle.
