For all you Pokémon fans out there, you're probably well-acquainted with "Pokémon Day," right? Every year on February 27th, we celebrate the release of the very first games, "Pokémon Red and Green," with a slew of special events and projects.
Previously, it was announced that CoMix Wave Films, the acclaimed animation studio behind cinematic masterpieces like "Your Name.," "Weathering With You," and "Suzume," would be producing a commemorative animation titled "Dragonite's First Flight" (カイリューとゆうびんやさん). Today (February 20th), the official teaser trailer dropped, with the full version set to premiere on Pokémon Day, February 27th!
The animation tells the story of Hana, a young girl from the Paldea region who dreams of becoming a top-tier postman, just like Dragonite. One day, she discovers a letter with no recipient, embarking on an adventurous journey with her partner, Fuecoco, to find the sender. Their quest takes them through bustling cities and breathtaking natural landscapes, eventually leading them to a boy named Rio.
It turns out the letter was written by Rio to his father, who works in the Kanto region, wishing him a happy birthday. However, by the time they find Rio, his dad's birthday has already passed...
This animation is a collaborative effort between CoMix Wave Films and emerging director Taku Kimura (Studio LEMONADE). From the teaser, you can already feel a distinct style that sets it apart from previous Pokémon animations. CoMix Wave Films' renowned expertise in background art truly shines, promising absolutely stunning visuals.
Beyond the main characters, the teaser features glimpses of other Pokémon appearing in the story, including Dragonite, Kyogre, Fuecoco, Maushold (Family of Four), Wiglett, Diglett, and Zebstrika. The animation will showcase Pokémon working alongside humans, living freely in the wild, and serving as loyal companions, offering fans a rich and diverse look into the Pokémon world!
