Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division announced the latest Gunpla product「EXPO2025 1/144 RX-78F00/E Gundam (EX-001 Glass Feather Equipment) Chemical Recycle Ver.」is scheduled for release in April 2025.
In the exhibition area of the 2025 Japan World Expo (Osaka-Kansai Expo), the 17-meter-tall "RX-78F00/E Gundam Life-Sized Statue" standing next to the "GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION" exhibition hall was modified from the previously movable life-sized Gundam at "GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA". It has been redesigned into a non-articulated, high-kneeling pose looking up at the cosmos, with the left shoulder armor, skirt armor, and leg armor replaced with new solar panel-like designs. When night falls, special performances with lighting and smoke effects will be presented.
The "EXPO2025 1/144 RX-78F00/E Gundam (EX-001 Glass Feather Equipment) Chemical Recycle Ver." released this time has almost no difference in molding and color from the previously announced regular version. However, it marks the first practical application of Bandai's chemical recycling technology, which has been under research since 2021, with 44% of the parts by weight using plastic raw materials remanufactured from recycled waste.
These chemically recycled plastics come from discarded runner frames collected by BANDAI SPIRITS from consumers. After chemical processing by factories such as PS Japan, they are refined into polystyrene (PS) raw material, which then returns to Bandai's Shizuoka factory to be remanufactured into Gundam models. Bandai has previously released several "recycled color" Gunpla, but this product finally achieves molding colors like white and clear blue, making the model's appearance indistinguishable from the regular version.
