The Danish LEGO toy company recently announced product information for several new releases. This article will introduce the Ideas Series set number 21356, the “River Steamboat”! It is scheduled for release on April 11, 2025, with a suggested retail price of US$329.99.
The original design for this paddlewheel steamboat comes from American LEGO fan Aaron Hall, whose Western River Steamboat previously garnered 10,000 votes on the LEGO IDEAS platform. Aaron combined his upbringing in the Mississippi River region of the North American Midwest with his passion for LEGO, creating a classic and magnificent steamboat scaled for LEGO minifigures.

Now, let's take a look at the version modified by LEGO's official designers! The officially commercialized “21356 River Steamboat” comprises a total of 4090 pieces. Once assembled, it stands 40 cm tall and measures an impressive 69 cm in length, making for a truly commanding presence. The construction style continues the retro paddlewheel steamboat aesthetic, but with a brightened color palette, resulting in an overall stunning appearance. It also features an articulated mechanism for the paddles (paddlewheels) and rudder, allowing for interactive functions such as dropping anchor and raising the boarding ramp, just like a real ship.
▼ This steamboat can be broadly divided into the boiler deck at the bottom, the main deck, the Texas deck, and the pilothouse at the very top.
Beyond its exquisite exterior, the interior is meticulously constructed for its purpose as an “entertainment cruise,” featuring a stage, restaurant, and kitchen. It also incorporates realistic details such as a bridge, crew quarters, and bathrooms. Additionally, a Steam Engine Museum is located on the boiler deck, allowing you to observe the piston action and steam engine up close. Complete with a dedicated display stand, this set is fantastic for both play and display once assembled!
