Deadline exclusively reported today that the MCU's "Spider-Man" series has landed its first new cast member for the upcoming fourth installment: Sadie Sink. Sink has risen to prominence in recent years for her role as Max in the Netflix series "Stranger Things."

Sink has long been rumored to join the Marvel Universe. Recent whispers suggested she was in contention to play Jean Grey in a new "X-Men" film. However, speculation now points to her potentially portraying Peter Parker's iconic love interest, Mary Jane Watson. Of course, it's also possible she could first appear as Jean Grey in "Spider-Man 4."

A major reason for the speculation linking Sink to either Jean Grey or Mary Jane is her distinctive red hair. However, her exact role remains unconfirmed by official sources. While Zendaya, a returning cast member from the first three films, will reprise her role alongside Tom Holland, and her character also goes by the initials MJ, her full name is Michelle Jones-Watson—not the original Mary Jane. This leaves the door open for the classic "OG MJ" Mary Jane Watson to make an appearance.

"Spider-Man 4" will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." The screenwriting duo from the first three films, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, are set to pen the script again. The film is currently slated for a summer release on July 31, 2026.
