As the "God of War" series celebrates its 20th anniversary, rumors have been circulating in the gaming industry about Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) potentially releasing a remake of classic titles. However, renowned video game journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that these rumors might be misleading, as Sony is reportedly developing a new spinoff game with a story set to return to Greece.

Grubb recently took to the social media platform Bluesky to address speculation about a remake. He indicated that while many inquiries were made, his investigation pointed to a new "God of War" project set in Greece slated for this year, clarifying that it is not a remake collection but rather a fresh spinoff project.

He further clarified that he had never heard specific details about a remake. When he checked with internal sources, they reportedly stated that "God of War" would not appear at Sony Interactive Entertainment's "State of Play" presentation, but news might be released during the 20th-anniversary period.
Since the original "God of War" launched on PlayStation 2 in 2005, the series has expanded to nine titles. The first seven games were set within Greek mythology, while 2018's "God of War" and 2022's "God of War Ragnarök" shifted to a Norse mythology backdrop. Now, if the rumored spinoff truly returns to Greece, it will undoubtedly generate significant excitement among players.
Currently, Sony is celebrating the "God of War" 20th anniversary with a series of events, but the company has not officially confirmed any details regarding a new spinoff or remake plans. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
