Vin Diesel, who once harbored directorial ambitions in his youth, having written, directed, and starred in the short film "Multi-Facial" and the feature "Strays," largely stepped away from the director's chair after rising to fame as an actor. However, Diesel is now set to return to directing.

Today, Diesel recalled on his Instagram that after "Fast & Furious 4" wrapped, Universal Pictures asked him to write, direct, and star in a prequel short film, "Los Bandoleros." This short explained what happened to his character, Dom Toretto, between the end of the first film and the beginning of the fourth (the short was included on the film's home video release). Recently, Universal has assigned him a similar task.

Diesel revealed that Universal has once again asked him to direct a prequel short for the upcoming "Fast & Furious 11." He has already proposed to Universal that they film in truly exotic locations, hinting that a desert setting is highly probable. Diesel admitted that while they shot in the Middle East for "Fast & Furious 7," they never truly ventured deep into the desert, a missed opportunity he hopes to rectify this time.

While Diesel did not elaborate on the short film's specific plot, it is expected to bridge some narrative gaps between "Fast X" and "Fast & Furious 11." If this is the case, it suggests a potentially significant in-story time jump between the two films.
