Jake Gyllenhaal's starring vehicle, the new "Road House" film, premiered on Amazon Prime Video last year to strong viewership, quickly greenlighting a sequel. However, director Doug Liman publicly clashed with Amazon prior to its release, protesting the streamer's decision to forgo a theatrical run, a move he considered a breach of contract. This highly publicized fallout made it clear Liman would not return to direct, and now, Amazon and MGM Studios appear close to finding his successor.

Puck News recently reported that "Sherlock Holmes" franchise director Guy Ritchie is currently in negotiations to helm the "Road House" sequel. Screenwriter Will Beall, known for "Aquaman" and "Gangster Squad," is reportedly penning the script. Ritchie has frequently collaborated with Gyllenhaal in recent years, having previously worked together on MGM's "The Covenant" and the upcoming, yet-to-be-released film "In the Grey."
