The iconic 1980s series "Miami Vice" stands as a landmark cop drama in American television history, famously launching the careers of its dual stars, Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, who became household names. Renowned director Michael Mann, who served as an executive producer on the original series, later helmed the 2006 film adaptation starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. However, that film received a lukewarm critical reception and underperformed at the box office, failing to launch a new franchise.

Despite this, Universal Pictures, which holds the rights to "Miami Vice," appears keen on revitalizing the IP. According to a report today by prominent entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman on Patreon, Joseph Kosinski, director of "Top Gun: Maverick," is reportedly in quiet talks with Universal to direct a new "Miami Vice" film. Meanwhile, Dan Gilroy, director of "Nightcrawler" and co-writer for the "Star Wars" series "Andor," has already been hired to pen the screenplay. Details regarding the new "black and white" star pairing for this iteration remain under wraps.
