Released in 1958, the sci-fi horror classic "The Blob" not only served as a launchpad for the late action icon Steve McQueen in his first leading role, but also marked the genesis of the enduring "slime monster" genre. Such a profoundly influential work in popular culture is, inevitably, ripe for periodic reinvention.
Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently reported on his Patreon page that surging stars Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell have been listed as potential leads for the upcoming "The Blob" remake. Coincidentally, the two actors recently wrapped production on an untitled sci-fi film directed by J.J. Abrams, which has since been revealed as "The Great Beyond."

Paramount previously remade the film in 1988, with "The Mask" director Chuck Russell at the helm. Since 2009, various filmmakers have been attached to a second reboot, including musician and director Rob Zombie, followed by "Con Air" director Simon West. The latest to join the project is David Bruckner, director of the 2022 "Hellraiser" reboot, who was reported last year to be writing and directing the new iteration for Warner Bros. Discovery.
