Warner Bros. Pictures today announced updated release dates for three films, starting with "The Hunt for Gollum," the second spinoff film from Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" series, which is now scheduled for December 17, 2027.
"The Hunt for Gollum" was originally slated for a December 2026 release. Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum, recently revealed that the film had been pushed back a full year, and Warner Bros. has now officially confirmed the new date.
Serkis is set to produce, direct, and star in "The Hunt for Gollum," with Jackson returning as a producer. The story takes place between Bilbo Baggins' birthday party in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and the Fellowship's arrival at the Mines of Moria. The plot kicks off as Gandalf dispatches Aragorn to find Gollum, fearing the creature could reveal information about the One Ring's whereabouts to Sauron.

In other news, "Remain," a romantic thriller conceived by master of suspense M. Night Shyamalan and "The Notebook" author Nicholas Sparks, is scheduled for an October 23, 2026 release.
Starring Phoebe Dynevor and Jake Gyllenhaal, the project is being developed by Shyamalan and Sparks for two different mediums based on the same original idea and characters. Shyamalan is penning the screenplay, while Sparks is writing a novel. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.
Finally, the sixth installment in the "Evil Dead" franchise, "Evil Dead Burn," is slated to hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
