Grand Theft Auto VI's Highly Anticipated Second Trailer Draws 'AI-Generated' Criticism from Assassin's Creed Shadows Writer

Rockstar Games recently dropped the highly anticipated second trailer for "Grand Theft Auto VI" (GTA VI), igniting a global online frenzy within days. The nearly three-minute preview further showcased story details, high-fidelity visuals, and glimpses of new characters, thrilling countless players. However, not everyone was sold on the trailer's content, with even industry insiders stepping forward to share their opinions.

On the BlueSky social media platform, Rik Godwin, a writer for Ubisoft's latest title "Assassin’s Creed Shadows" and its "Claws of Awaji" DLC, posted that his initial reaction to the "GTA VI" second trailer was that "aside from the stunning but extremely generic graphical fidelity, the overall feeling was like a by-the-numbers GTA." He added that if one were to ask an AI to generate a "GTA VI" trailer, it would likely produce something similar.

Godwin also highlighted the character design for a supporting character, Cal Hampton, in the trailer, finding it overly formulaic and lacking originality. He noted that the protagonist's best friend is a conspiracy theorist, and according to the official GTA VI website, he even wears a T-shirt emblazoned with "Violence is awesome! Thanks, video games." This led him to openly express his renewed skepticism, stating, "Hmm, second hmm."

Despite his criticisms, Godwin conceded that two trailers might not fully capture the true essence of such a massive game, jokingly adding, "That being said, I'll still dutifully buy and play it."

He also revealed that he had higher expectations, stating that after experiencing "Red Dead Redemption 2," he was hoping to see something a bit more distinct.

As Rockstar's long-awaited official sequel, "Grand Theft Auto VI" has commanded significant global attention since its initial trailer. While this second trailer maintains a high visual standard, whether it can truly redefine player expectations in terms of narrative and innovation remains to be seen with future gameplay reveals.
