Action icon Sylvester Stallone's signature "First Blood" franchise, though its last installment, "Rambo: Last Blood," was billed as both the fifth and final chapter, isn't quite finished. The story, it seems, can still flow backward, exploring earlier chapters of John Rambo's life.
Years ago, Stallone himself had outlined a rough concept for a prequel, envisioning John Rambo as a high school athlete before his harrowing experiences in the Vietnam War, and how those experiences profoundly impacted his mind and body. Now, a script for such a prequel is indeed nearing production.

Deadline exclusively reported today that Millennium Media, a co-producer on "The Expendables" franchise and "Rambo" (2008) and "Rambo: Last Blood," has initiated sales for the distribution rights of the "First Blood" prequel, titled "John Rambo," at this year's Cannes Film Festival market.
The prequel is confirmed to be directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, known for "Big Game" and "Sisu." Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who penned "Black Adam," are co-writing the screenplay. Production is slated to begin in Thailand this October.
The film will delve into young Rambo's origins and experiences during the Vietnam War. While Stallone is not currently attached to star or participate in any behind-the-scenes capacity, and it's unclear if the script incorporates his original ideas, he has long been aware of the prequel plans. Producers remain open to Stallone's return should a suitable role or position arise.
