LEGO 75639 "One Piece" The Going Merry Pirate Ship Review ~ The Adventure Ship that Rides the Wind and Waves!

In early 2025, when the Danish toy company LEGO announced the release of products based on the NETFLIX live-action series "One Piece," LEGO fans worldwide were undoubtedly thrilled and incredibly excited! Today, we at the Toy People editorial team are ecstatic to get an early hands-on look at the new "One Piece" LEGO set before its official release on August 1st: "75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship"!

Adapted from the "One Piece" manga created by Japanese artist Eiichiro Oda, the NETFLIX live-action series starring Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, and Emily Rudd as Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, premiered on Netflix in August 2023. In its debut week, it achieved an impressive 140 million hours viewed globally within just four days. Despite significant adaptations, the live-action "One Piece," produced under the supervision of Eiichiro Oda himself, successfully retained the classic personality traits of its popular characters. Even those unfamiliar with the original manga could enjoy this refreshing pirate world, allowing "One Piece" to break the dreaded curse of live-action adaptations.

Among the LEGO sets based on the live-action "One Piece" series, the Going Merry is undoubtedly a must-buy for many toy collectors! It's not just a LEGO pirate ship; it's the classic adventure vessel of the Straw Hat Pirates, instantly giving it the feel of a highly anticipated flagship product! The packaging, designed around the live-action "One Piece" theme, depicts the "Going Merry" sailing on the high seas with the Straw Hat crew enjoying the beautiful weather on deck. In the bottom-left corner, we see Iñaki Godoy as Luffy.

▼ The back of the box showcases the Going Merry from another angle, with close-ups, and highlights one of the key selling points of this One Piece set: the wanted poster pieces.

▼ This set comes with a total of four wanted posters, which we'll reveal later.

▼ The side box art is not only bold in its use of color but also shows strong layering—it looks fantastic!

▼ Let's unbox the contents! There are a total of 1376 pieces, including ten numbered bags of parts and one unnumbered bag containing the rubber rigging.

▼ There are also soft plastic sails. Seeing the Straw Hat Pirates' Jolly Roger appear in a LEGO set is truly moving.

▼ The stickers are mainly used to add detail to the Going Merry's spiral patterns and interior.

▼ One instruction manual. I was genuinely hoping to find some interesting information about the series inside, but it jumps straight into the building steps! I couldn't help but let out a little "Aww...!"

▼ Well then, let's get to it! Time to start building, GO GO!

▼ And it's finished! First, let's take a look at the Going Merry from all angles.

▼ The massive foresail is absolutely awesome!

▼ In terms of specifications, it stands approximately 34 cm tall and measures 39 cm in length.

▼ Next, let's dive into the details of the Merry! First up is the sheep figurehead at the bow. The details of the carved horns are represented by stickers.

▼ During assembly, I noticed that the parts for the lower jaw don't fit together completely flush. However, it creates a subtle angle that seems just right. Could this be intentional!?

▼ The cannon firing mechanism and the trigger located on the deck.

▼ On the forecastle deck, there's a treasure chest and some wine. Opening the floor reveals a cabin below, detailed with windows and ropes (all stickers).

▼ The anchor is positioned on the side. It tends to get knocked off easily when moving the Merry, so a more secure attachment method would have been nice.

▼ The central deck also holds a secret! Opening it up reveals food and fruit stored inside the ship, as well as a storage space in the middle for the four wanted posters.

▼ The wanted poster characters I got this time are "Alvida" with a bounty of 5,000,000 Berries, "Buggy the Clown" with a bounty of 15,000,000 Berries, "Pirate Fleet Admiral Don Krieg" with a bounty of 17,000,000 Berries, and "Arlong" with a bounty of 20,000,000 Berries.

▼ Each set randomly includes 4 wanted posters, with a total of 8 different designs to collect!

▼ The tool area on the central deck.

▼ Next is the stern section. You can walk up the stairs to the mast and see the two tangerine trees at the back. The interior space is also wonderfully executed! The ship's helm is also movable.

▼ This stern section can be detached and opened up, revealing many daily necessities inside.

▼ Below is the more spacious kitchen area, which includes a dining table, stove, sink, and knives.

Finally, let's look at the five minifigures included in this set: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and Usopp. From the characters' expressive face prints and the detailed printing on the torso pieces to the hair molds, I personally think they are all quite excellent~

▼ Zoro's Three-Sword Style is even reproducible in LEGO!! The specially molded, white Wado Ichimonji can be clipped directly around his neck without having to remove his head first, making it very intuitive and convenient to attach and detach. Paired with the extra black bandana, you can recreate scenes from the show!

▼ Aboard the Going Merry, everyone has their own perfect spot~ Placing the minifigures one by one onto the pirate ship is just so much fun!

LEGO 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship Review Summary:

Among LEGO's vast array of product types, pirate ship models have always been an extremely popular category, including sets like "6285 Black Seas Barracuda," "4184 The Black Pearl," "71042 The Silent Mary," and "21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay," which we also reviewed five years ago. This LEGO version of the Going Merry is surely a pirate ship deeply cherished in the hearts of many toy fans—the ship that carries the dreams of the Straw Hat Pirates. Just opening the box and seeing that massive foresail is incredibly exciting.

In terms of specifications, with under 1500 pieces and a finished length of 39 cm, it's relatively easy to display. Add to that the hidden features on the ship, the compact yet beautiful interior, the lineup of five character minifigures, a Zoro who can hold the Wado Ichimonji in his mouth for his Three-Sword Style, and the potentially different wanted posters in each box—if you love "One Piece," this is an absolute must-buy~!
