The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company has announced the latest product in its "HG (High Grade)" robot model kit series, "Ryuo-maru," from the anime series Mashin Hero Wataru, scheduled for release in January 2026.
Ryuo-maru is a new form created when Ryujinmaru, who had once died, was resurrected by holy water and merged with the soul of Kuujinmaru. Due to the soul of Kuujinmaru residing within it, it gained the ability to fly and can transform from its humanoid "Mashin Mode" into its bird-like "Hōō Mode." Its attack patterns are fundamentally the same as Ryujinmaru's, but their power has been greatly enhanced. Its weapon and special move have also changed from "Toryuken" to the more powerful "Horyuken."
The "HG Ryuo-maru" is produced using Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology. The white, black, red, gold, blue, and other colors across its body are reproduced with a rich array of molded parts. The dragon crests on its shoulders are even presented as independently separated parts, allowing for a significant recreation of the anime's refined and cool design without the need for stickers or painting.
Despite its low-head-count proportion, the kit is designed with as much articulated armor separation and flexible joints as possible. The pull-out mechanism in the waist expands the range of motion for the hip joints, and the knee armor is linked with the knee joints. Furthermore, through the main body's transformation mechanism and by replacing some parts, Ryuo-maru can transform into "Hōō Mode."
The movable axes built into the shoulder armor allow for an expanded range of motion for both arms. The chest armor on both sides, connected to the shoulders, also features a movable design that allows them to be pulled significantly forward, enabling both arms to raise the sword above its head. By replacing the forehead part with the one featuring the golden dragon crest, Ryuo-maru can recreate its signature pose for unleashing its special move, "Horyuken"!
