In April, the live-action "Tangled," helmed by "The Greatest Showman" director Michael Gracey, reportedly halted its pre-production. This sudden pause was attributed to the disappointing box office performance of the live-action "Snow White," leading Disney to question the market appeal of its live-action adaptations and temporarily suspend the project.
However, today, Deadline exclusively reported that Disney has officially restarted development on the live-action "Tangled" and is currently in talks with Scarlett Johansson to portray Mother Gothel.

Prior to the news of Johansson's talks, rumors surfaced in 2023 suggesting Disney was interested in Florence Pugh for the role of Rapunzel. If both actresses sign on, the duo, who previously played "Black Widow sisters" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would reunite on screen as a mother-daughter pair, potentially sharing musical numbers.
The live-action "Tangled" script is being penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, co-writer of "Thor: Love and Thunder" and director of the Netflix teen dark comedy "Do Revenge." A release date has not yet been set.
