Get ready, Trainers! A brand-new series of Pokémon-themed traditional Japanese sweets, "Pokémon Kyogashi," is about to drop! This limited-edition collection, crafted by Kyoto's venerable wagashi shop "Shichijo Kanshundo," draws inspiration from five fan-favorite Pokémon: Pikachu, Ho-Oh, Shiftry, Clodsire, and Magikarp. Mark your calendars – they're hitting shelves on October 25, 2025!

Nestled near Sanjusangendo Temple and the Kyoto National Museum, Kyogashisho Shichijo Kanshundo is a wagashi shop with a seriously long history, dating all the way back to the first year of Keio (1865).
In fact, the "Pokémon Kyogashi" series has been an annual staple collaboration with Pokémon since 2023, consistently selling out and racking up rave reviews! These Kyogashi seamlessly blend the Pokémon world with Kyoto's rich culture and scenic beauty, creating traditional sweets that boast both artisanal craftsmanship and modern character charm. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by seasoned masters, making them as adorable as they are artistic.

This year's lineup features three distinct types of handcrafted sweets: "Jogashi (Nama-wagashi)," "Fusho Senbei," and "Higashi," all delicately recreating the unique characteristics of our favorite Pokémon.
▼ Pokémon Jogashi (Set of 4) Price: 2,916 JPY
"Jogashi" are traditional Japanese sweets crafted using classic wagashi techniques, often inspired by seasonal changes, waka poetry, and other artistic themes.
Shichijo Kanshundo's Jogashi are individually handcrafted by artisans, using pure water from Kyoto's Higashiyama region and only the highest quality ingredients.
Featured Pokémon: Pikachu, Ho-Oh, Shiftry, and Clodsire. These treats are made using traditional techniques like "Nerikiri" and "Jōyo Manjū," meticulously capturing each Pokémon's distinct features in their delicate forms.
(Note: "Nerikiri" is a type of wagashi made by repeatedly kneading a base of white bean paste (often from lima beans) with ingredients like starch syrup or gyūhi (mochi paste). "Jōyo Manjū" are handcrafted by artisans, featuring a yam-based dough wrapped around a delicate bean paste filling, then colored.)

▼ Pokémon Fusho Senbei (Set of 3) Price: 1,728 JPY
"Fusho Senbei" are sweet crackers individually baked from glutinous rice, known for their light, melt-in-your-mouth texture. The intricate designs on top are meticulously hand-painted by skilled artisans, stroke by stroke.
Featured Pokémon: Pikachu, Magikarp, and Ho-Oh, with designs that beautifully blend Kyoto scenery and traditional Japanese patterns.

▼ Pokémon Higashi Price: 2,160 JPY
These Higashi feature a "Unkin" pattern alongside Pikachu's iconic shape. The "Unkin pattern" is a beautiful motif that combines cherry blossoms (representing spring clouds) and autumn maple leaves (representing autumn brocade) in a single design, symbolizing the simultaneous beauty of different seasons.

Currently, online orders are available, with in-store sales kicking off on October 25, 2025, at the Kyoto Main Store, Kitasenju Marui Store, JR Kyoto Isetan Store, and Fushimi Otesuji Store. Plus, the "Pokémon Jogashi" will have a special limited release at the Kyoto Main Store only, available on the 7th of each month (known as "Nana no Hi"), starting November 7, 2025.
The "Pokémon Kyogashi" collection is a delightful fusion of two Japanese cultural icons: Kyoto wagashi and Pokémon, offering a sweet feast that lets you savor both tradition and pop culture.
