Amazon has been developing a live-action "Mass Effect" series with BioWare since 2021. Last year, Daniel Casey, co-writer of "F9: The Fast Saga," was tapped to pen the script, with Doug Jung, co-writer of "Star Trek Beyond," serving as showrunner. Yesterday, officials revealed new details regarding the series' connection to the beloved video game franchise.

"Mass Effect" producer Mike Gamble recently published an article on the BioWare website, confirming that the live-action series is progressing steadily and will tell an original story. Gamble wrote, "The series will explore new stories within the 'Mass Effect' universe's timeline, set after the game trilogy. It won't retell Commander Shepard's story — after all... that's your story to play, isn't it?"
Placing live-action adaptations directly within an established game universe is not unprecedented, with notable examples including the "Assassin's Creed" film and the "Fallout" live-action series. "Mass Effect" is clearly following this trend.
