Thirty-five years ago, Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard assembled a star-studded cast including Kurt Russell, Robert De Niro, and Jennifer Jason Leigh for the firefighting epic "Backdraft." The film grossed $152 million worldwide, at one point becoming the highest-grossing firefighter-themed movie in history. Now, 35 years later, Howard is reportedly set to gather a new generation of stars for another high-stakes firefighting mission.

Renowned entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider exclusively reported on his blog, The InSneider, that Ron Howard is collaborating with Amazon and MGM to develop an untitled firefighter film, tapping rising star Glen Powell to lead the cast. While some media outlets previously speculated the new project might be a sequel or remake of "Backdraft," Sneider emphasized that it is an entirely original screenplay penned by Christina Hodson, known for her work on the DCEU's "The Flash."
