As discussions continue to rage, Netflix has unveiled the trailer for a new behind-the-scenes documentary, "One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5," once again shifting the spotlight to the Duffer Brothers.
In a statement released for the documentary's January 12, 2026, premiere, creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer reflected on what initially inspired them to pursue filmmaking.
Ross Duffer shared that growing up in a small North Carolina town, becoming a filmmaker seemed like a distant dream. "It wasn't until we watched the behind-the-scenes documentary for 'The Lord of the Rings' that we first realized how these massive films are made, step by step," he explained. He also quipped that seeing the pressure director Peter Jackson endured on set only solidified his desire to do the same.
Matt Duffer added that with the decline of physical media, in-depth behind-the-scenes stories like these have become increasingly rare. "We wanted to bring that back," he stated. He described "One Last Adventure" as "an honest attempt to show how a big show gets made," emphasizing that it's not just for die-hard fans. "Even if you're just curious about how Hollywood shows are produced, this documentary is worth watching," he noted.
Furthermore, after the final episode aired on January 1, 2026, the Duffer Brothers' responses to certain plot questions during interviews with various media outlets were described as vague or even evasive, leading to dissatisfaction among some viewers.
Addressing the backlash, Matt Duffer candidly admitted to host Josh Horowitz that he was not in good shape, directly appealing to fans: "I really shouldn't have done those post-mortem interviews. I was completely exhausted and recovering from a cold. If people are angry about the answers we gave, please, go easy on me."
Ross also stated in other interviews that he understood the emotional reactions to the finale, acknowledging that "a story that has been with people for so many years can never satisfy everyone." However, he expressed hope that the behind-the-scenes documentary would allow viewers to see the struggles and choices made during the creative process.
