Horror maestro Mike Flanagan, known for "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Doctor Sleep," is helming a new sequel to "The Exorcist." After securing Scarlett Johansson as its new lead, the project has recently added Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Laurence Fishburne to its cast.

Details regarding their roles, much like the film's title and full synopsis, remain under wraps. Prior to their casting, child star Jacobi Jupe, who recently gained recognition for his role in "Hamnet," was also confirmed to join the ensemble.

While this film follows "The Exorcist: Believer" in production, its narrative will not continue "Believer"'s storyline. Instead, it will tell a new story set within "The Exorcist" universe. "Believer" was originally planned as the first installment of a connected trilogy with two more sequels, but those plans have been scrapped due to its underwhelming box office performance. Flanagan's new film, which he is writing and directing, is slated for a North American release on March 12, 2027.
