BANDAI CANDY, the confectionery toy division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from its popular assembly model candy toy series 'SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT', the "Gaoking Black Version", based on Toei's special effects series 'Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger', scheduled for release in July 2026.
In the series' lore, there are 100 giant lifeforms called "Power Animals" that fight alongside the Gaorangers. While they appear mechanical, they are nature spirits derived from animal forms. They contain the ultimate life energy, "Gao Soul", which allows them to unleash powerful attacks. In the early stages of the story, the Gaorangers could summon Gao Lion, Gao Eagle, Gao Shark, Gao Bison, and Gao Tiger to perform the Hyakujuu Gattai (Hundred Beast Combination), forming the mighty Spirit King "Gaoking".
The "Gaoking Black Version" is a modified version of the previously released standard edition. This product also includes the five Power Animals: Gao Lion, Gao Eagle, Gao Shark, Gao Bison, and Gao Tiger. However, the molded parts and paint colors have been changed to metallic black, gunmetal, and gold, paying homage to the popular "DX Chogokin Gaoking Black Version" toy released during the series' broadcast.
Aside from the colors, the specifications are essentially the same as the standard version. The five Power Animals faithfully reproduce their in-show appearance and feature combination and transformation mechanisms. They can recreate the tank-type form where Gao Bison carries other Power Animals, the transitional form where the five beasts prepare to combine, and the completed Gaoking. Once combined, the total height is approximately 15 cm, and each joint features flexible articulation. The dedicated weapon, the "Fin Blade", includes a longer blade part for an enhanced aesthetic. The head features a built-in face-changing mechanism, allowing you to switch to a passionate roaring expression by rotating the top of the head.
