Mike Flanagan, the acclaimed director behind "Doctor Sleep," is at the helm of a new "The Exorcist" sequel starring Scarlett Johansson, and the project has just added two significant new cast members. Former DC "Supergirl" Sasha Calle has joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role. Also boarding the film is John Leguizamo, who is reportedly set to play the villain. Production is slated to begin next week.

They join an already impressive lineup that includes Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, and Jacobi Jupe, the breakout child star from "Hamnet."

While this new installment follows "The Exorcist: Believer," it will not continue that film's storyline. Instead, it will introduce a fresh narrative set within the established "The Exorcist" universe. "Believer" had initially planned a connected trilogy, but those plans were abandoned due to its underwhelming box office performance. Flanagan's upcoming film, which he is both writing and directing, is currently scheduled for a North American theatrical release on March 12, 2027.
