The film also simultaneously announced three of its main voice cast members: Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Waits. Additional voice talent has yet to be revealed.

Set in a parallel universe in 1939, the story unfolds in a sprawling, fictional metropolis where humans and aliens coexist. Private detective Ray Gunn, voiced by Rockwell, becomes entangled in a complex case involving extraterrestrials, murder, and an all-around entertainer named Venus Nova, voiced by Johansson.
In an official press release, Bird recalled that while "Ray Gunn" has been in active development for eight years, the concept has been swirling in his mind for over three decades. He described "Ray Gunn" as a fusion of sci-fi elements and 1940s detective film noir, likening it to "The Maltese Falcon" meeting space adventure hero "Buck Rogers." Distributed by Netflix, the film is slated for release this year, though a specific date has yet to be announced.
