Bandai Spirits' Tamashii Nations division has just announced a new release in its legendary Chogokin die-cast toy line: the "Daiku Maryu & Gaiking" set from the classic anime "Daiku Maryu Gaiking"! This incredible revival is scheduled for release in November 2026.
First appearing in the 1976 Toei original robot anime "Daiku Maryu Gaiking," the Daiku Maryu is a colossal 400-meter-long, 38,000-ton dinosaur-type mobile fortress. It's capable of operating in the air, on land, deep underwater, and in space, protected by Super-Alloy armor tougher than diamond. Its entire body is bristling with various cannons, missiles, projectile weapons, and melee armaments. Furthermore, the Daiku Maryu houses the 50-meter-tall combat robot, Gaiking. Since Gaiking's torso is primarily formed from the Daiku Maryu's head, it's equipped with an array of super-weapons like the "Hydro Blazer" and can even perform combination attacks with its carrier.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of "Daiku Maryu Gaiking," Bandai is reviving the classic 1976 "GA-52 Chogokin Daiku Maryu" toy, re-engineered with modern technology as the "Chogokin Daiku Maryu & Gaiking" set. The revived Daiku Maryu measures 20cm in length, and using 3D scanning technology, the sculpt of every part from the original toy has been meticulously recreated. Not only does it replicate the original's chrome-plated parts and color scheme, but some components have been upgraded to die-cast metal for enhanced durability, while the wings retain their classic missile-firing gimmick.
But that's not all. The set also includes fully painted versions of the three support mechs—something the original release lacked—which can be stored inside the Daiku Maryu's abdominal bay. Incredibly, the set also incorporates the "GA-51 Chogokin Gaiking," which was originally sold separately. This time, it's been redesigned as a smaller, in-scale version to match the Daiku Maryu. Its classic design has also been perfectly captured via 3D scanning, and it even reproduces the three-part separation and combination gimmick for its body.
The Daiku Maryu's head, which was non-removable on the original toy, now features a new detachable mechanism, and you can even attach Gaiking's separated head part in its place. With its head detached, the Daiku Maryu can utilize its articulated joints to transform into its curled-up defensive posture.
