Bandai Spirits' collectors division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has just announced a new release in its popular die-cast action figure line, METAL BUILD. Straight from the celebrated novel "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children," the massive "Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher [METAL BUILD EXPO]" is slated for a November 2026 release.
The Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher is a colossal beam weapon utilized by the Earth Federation's Londo Bell task force. Designed to be aimed by Amuro Ray's Hi-ν Gundam, it unleashes a devastating MEGA particle cannon blast with firepower that surpasses that of a battleship. In the "Beltorchika's Children" novel, it plays a pivotal role in destroying the nuclear pulse engines propelling the asteroid Axis on its collision course with Earth, even obliterating a Musaka-class cruiser—famed for being the "Shield of Axis"—in a single shot. Due to its immense size, the weapon cannot be carried and is normally stored aboard the Londo Bell flagship, the Ra Cailum, which must supply its power directly.
The "METAL BUILD Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher [METAL BUILD EXPO]" is a redeco of the original 2022 release, now featuring a completely new color scheme designed to complement the "Hi-ν Gundam [METAL BUILD EXPO]" figure. The exterior armor is finished in a sophisticated palette of off-white with a greater application of purple tones. The placement and design of some of the printed markings have also been updated. Internally, the intricate mechanical structures are treated with a rich variety of metallic paints, creating a stunning contrast between parts and highlighting the incredible detail. Furthermore, the included "Energy Cable" accessory has been replaced with a thicker, more substantial version for a greater sense of presence.
Boasting an impressive maximum length of 45 cm (approx. 17.7 inches), the launcher's form is familiar yet features a distinctly different design. It incorporates a transformation gimmick original to the METAL BUILD series. In its "Diffusion Firing Mode," the cannon's body evokes the classic version designed by the legendary Takayuki Yanase. By transforming it into the "Convergent Firing Mode," the weapon unfolds into a long, slender cannon reminiscent of its appearance in the "Gundam EXTREME VS." video game series, cleverly integrating both iconic looks.
Since there's no to-scale battleship to connect it to, the METAL BUILD team has engineered an original piece of equipment, the "Ignition Battery Pack," to serve as its power source, linking to the main body via a flexible cable. Note that the shield accessory included with the original general release is not part of this set, as it is now included directly with the "Hi-ν Gundam [METAL BUILD EXPO]" figure.
