Japan's GOOD SMILE COMPANY is set to release a new PVC figure of Oscar François de Jarjayes, the iconic protagonist from the classic shojo manga series "The Rose of Versailles" (ベルサイユのばら). Part of their affordable "POP UP PARADE" line of pre-painted PVC figures, this release is slated for September 2026 with a price of 7,500 yen.

Fans who grew up in the 70s and 80s will undoubtedly be familiar with "The Rose of Versailles." Created by Japanese manga artist Riyoko Ikeda, the series began serialization in "Margaret" magazine in 1972. An anime adaptation followed, airing in 1979. A new animated film adaptation, celebrating the series' 50th anniversary, premiered in 2025.
Set in 18th-century France, the story follows the life of Oscar, a woman born into nobility but raised as a man, embodying a captivating blend of femininity and heroic spirit. The narrative vividly portrays the social conditions of the era and the complex relationships surrounding Oscar, including her friendship with Queen Marie Antoinette, her unspoken feelings for Hans, and the unwavering devotion of her childhood friend, André. Amidst a turbulent period, the tides of change within the Palace of Versailles profoundly shaped Oscar's destiny.
This POP UP PARADE Oscar PVC figure stands approximately 19 cm tall and captures her appearance from the latest theatrical film. Oscar is depicted in her iconic military uniform, featuring a long blue coat with gold trim over her upper body, paired with white fitted military trousers and black boots. Her waist-mounted saber is faithfully recreated, and she holds a single rose in her left hand, a poignant nod to the series' title. Fans of this classic work will find this a highly desirable collectible.
