BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has officially announced the latest addition to its "Pokémon PLAMO" plastic model kit series: the "Pokémon PLAMO Collection Select Series Black Mega Rayquaza," slated for release in August 2026.
The Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza is renowned for its devastating power and fierce territorial nature. It typically resides in the ozone layer, far above the clouds, where it sustains itself by absorbing energy from meteoroids using a special internal organ. In extremely rare circumstances, Rayquaza can utilize this stored meteoroid energy to Mega Evolve without the need for a Mega Stone. In the "Pokémon Horizons" anime, the Black Rayquaza, a central figure in the main storyline, was one of the Six Heroes Pokémon once owned by the ancient adventurer Lucius. During the Rising Volt Tacklers arc, it acknowledged Roy's strength and became his partner, successfully Mega Evolving during the climactic final battle against Amethio.
The "Pokémon PLAMO Collection Select Series Black Mega Rayquaza" is a modified version of the previously released standard kit. This new rendition features updated molded parts to accurately recreate its distinctive jet-black body and vibrant red patterns, while its gem-like organs are meticulously crafted with clear parts. Once assembled, the model boasts an impressive length of over 30 cm. Its mouth, forearms, and various body segments are equipped with articulation, allowing collectors to pose it dynamically in cool soaring stances, especially when paired with the included cloud-effect display base.
