BANDAI HOBBY, the model kit division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS, is set to release its latest product from the animated film "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" – the "RG AV-98Plus Ingram Plus" – on June 6, 2026. Ahead of the official launch, the company has unveiled the model's box art and official product images.
"Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" continues the series' timeline, set in 2030s Japan amidst a dwindling workforce. Labors—the multi-legged, large-scale walking machines once considered cutting-edge technology—have become an integral part of the social infrastructure. However, with the continuous advancement of AI and automation, human-piloted Labors are gradually being replaced by autonomous robots, becoming obsolete. Despite these changing times, the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Vehicles Section 2 continues its mission to protect the people and the city. Protagonist Kuga Towa, a member of the Second Unit, pilots the "AV-98Plus Ingram Plus," a heavily modified version of an older model, as they use their wit and courage to combat evolving tech-crimes.
The "AV-98Plus Ingram Plus," piloted by protagonist Kuga Towa and utilized by Special Vehicles Section 2's Second Unit in the 2030s, is a thoroughly upgraded version of the Type-98 AV Ingram, originally produced in 1998. Both its control system software and mechanical hardware performance have been significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the pilot's head-mounted display incorporates AR (Augmented Reality) Head-Up Display technology, allowing pilots to access critical information without diverting their gaze during operation.
The "RG AV-98Plus Ingram Plus", presented in 1/48 scale, features intricate sculpting and multi-color molded parts. It boasts a fully articulated inner frame with rich mechanical details, faithfully reproducing the wrinkled textures of the sealed joint covers. Silver parts utilize "realistic metallic gloss injection" molding technology, delivering an authentic metallic sheen. Its highly flexible joints allow for a wide range of dynamic poses, perfectly capturing the cool combat stances seen in the film. Additionally, the chest cockpit's opening and lifting mechanisms are recreated, allowing for the inclusion of a same-scale pilot figure of protagonist "Kuga Towa."
The exterior armor parts, sporting the iconic black-and-white police vehicle color scheme, feature refined and sharp details. The kit's molded colors largely reproduce the official design, while clear and precisely molded parts recreate intricate details like the shoulder warning lights and chest police badge. Decals for the unit's markings are also included. Various mechanisms from the original design are faithfully replicated throughout the body, including deployable searchlights on both sides of the chest, a stun stick storage mechanism in the shield, a revolver cannon storage compartment in the calf armor, an extendable mechanism for the hand when drawing the weapon, and an ammunition storage and deployment mechanism within the inner leg armor.
