Danish toy company LEGO has unveiled the latest addition to its LEGO Architecture series. This time, the series transports builders to Barcelona, Spain, to recreate Antoni Gaudí's iconic masterpiece: set number 21065, the Sagrada Família! It's a fitting tribute to a magnificent structure that remains unfinished to this day (and we can only imagine how long it will take to build!). Spanish architectural master Antoni Gaudí, who passed away 100 years ago, famously described the "Sagrada Família Basilica" – a world-renowned structure that has remained genuinely unfinished for 144 years – by saying, "My client (God) is not in a hurry." (While the main towers officially topped out in early 2026, full completion of the facade details and surrounding decorations is still anticipated to take another decade.) LEGO's largest-ever set, with its 12,060 pieces, meticulously reconstructs this soaring temple, reaching an impressive height of 62 cm and a width of 47 cm. Beyond capturing the majestic exterior, the entire model is designed to mirror the actual construction process of the Sagrada Família. Builders will begin with the apse and crypt, followed by the Nativity Facade (the only part completed before Gaudí's death) and the Passion Facade. The journey continues with the nave and western sacristy, the six central towers, and finally concludes with the eastern sacristy and the Glory Facade. This intricate building experience promises a profound dialogue with architecture and art.
The interior details are equally captivating. Special stained-glass effects are incorporated into the windows, allowing builders to imagine light filtering through, casting vibrant, shifting colors onto the stone walls. Inside the basilica, the tree-like columns, resembling a vast forest with their slender, branching clusters, rise like ancient trunks from the ground. The complex ceiling structure also presents a significant and rewarding challenge!
