In addition to the higher-spec MODEROID DX-SCALE version, Good Smile Company recently announced a new entry in their "MODEROID" model kit series: the "Swordfish II" from the classic anime "Cowboy Bebop." This 1/72 scale model kit is priced at 3,900 JPY and is slated for release in December 2026.
The Swordfish II is Spike Spiegel's iconic personal spacecraft. Originally a high-speed racing vessel, it was later modified into a formidable space fighter equipped with a high-performance nuclear fusion engine and aircraft cannons. It features a classic vibrant red livery and a sleek, streamlined fuselage, distinguished by its unique foldable wings. Its most prominent feature is the massive plasma cannon mounted on its underside, allowing for both ultra-high-speed maneuvers and powerful offensive capabilities.
The MODEROID Swordfish II measures approximately 24 cm in length and 20 cm in width when completed. Supervised by mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, the kit faithfully recreates the Swordfish II's streamlined body. Thanks to its intricate parts separation, builders can achieve show-accurate colors even with a straight build. The landing gear is designed to be retractable, and the plasma cannon can rotate and extend. The cockpit section is detachable, and the canopy can be opened and closed. Additionally, an unpainted mini-figure of Spike is included, allowing for dynamic flight poses when displayed with the dedicated stand.
