Japanese toy brand MEDICOM TOY is set to release a brand-new "Makoto-chan (Purple)" sofubi figure, inspired by the comedic masterpiece "Makoto-chan" from horror manga legend Kazuo Umezu! This limited-edition collectible will retail for 14,300 JPY (tax included) and is slated for release in June 2026 at MEDICOM TOY TOKYO, the brand's Shibuya flagship store.

"Makoto-chan" (まことちゃん), one of Umezu's best-selling works, is a hilarious gag manga centered around the mischievous kindergartener Makoto Sawada. Diverging from Umezu's signature spooky and grotesque themes, the series captivated a wide audience with its humorous, satirical, and often risqué daily life antics. The protagonist Makoto's iconic "Guwashi" hand gesture, where the palm is open with the middle and pinky fingers bent, even became a social phenomenon in Japan at the time.

The MEDICOM TOY Kazuo Umezu series "Makoto-chan (Purple)" sofubi figure stands approximately 19 cm tall. It faithfully recreates Makoto's kindergarten uniform, complete with his chest name tag, distinctive bowl cut hairstyle, and short pants. The figure perfectly captures his signature wide-open mouth expression and the classic "Guwashi" pose. The coloring adopts a unique purple hue, reminiscent of Showa-era manga printing, giving the figure an eerie purple skin tone that is unmistakably in Kazuo Umezu's iconic style!
