Fans of TYPE-MOON's iconic "Tsukihime" and "Fate" series, get ready! Back in 2021, TYPE-MOON announced a theatrical anime adaptation for their beloved visual novel, "Mahoutsukai no Yoru" (Witch on the Holy Night). While the 2026 release year was confirmed earlier this year, fans have been eagerly awaiting more details.
Today, July 7, animation studio ufotable officially dropped the bomb: the film hits Japanese theaters on November 20! They also unleashed a brand-new promotional video, sending waves of excitement through the fandom.
"Mahoutsukai no Yoru" (Witch on the Holy Night) is a visual novel developed and published by Japan's TYPE-MOON. Originally an unreleased and unfinished work by Kinoko Nasu from his "Tsukihime" era, it was eventually completed thanks to Takashi Takeuchi's strong recommendation. It also holds the distinction of being the earliest story in the sprawling TYPE-MOON universe.
The game itself launched in 2012, with a remastered version following later.
The newly released PV kicks off with a haunting narration: "A rumor has always circulated in this town—that two witches reside in the Western-style mansion on the hill."
It then transitions into lines from Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji, culminating with the core message: "This is the origin story of a young girl (a magician)." The trailer showcases several captivating scenes, finally flashing the bold "Theatrical Release: November 20, 2026" to officially seal the date.
