Get ready, "Darwin's Game" fans! The popular manga series by artist duo FLIPFLOPs, which wrapped up with 30 volumes and even got an anime adaptation in 2020, is officially getting the live-action movie treatment!
Today (July 10), the official announcement dropped: a live-action film for "Darwin's Game" is in the works, starring Taishi Nakagawa in the lead role. He'll be joined by a stellar cast including Koki., Mei Hata, Fuju Kamio, and Koji Yamamoto. Directing the action is Fumihiko Sori, known for his work on "Ping Pong" and the "Fullmetal Alchemist" live-action series. Mark your calendars – the movie is slated to hit theaters on March 12, 2027!
"Darwin's Game" was serialized in "Bessatsu Shonen Champion" from its January 2013 issue until its conclusion in November 2023, spanning 30 tankobon volumes. The anime adaptation, produced by Nexus, premiered in January 2020.
The story plunges ordinary college student Kaname Sudo into a deadly, real-world survival game after he casually opens a mysterious app called "Darwin's Game." Alongside his allies, he must fight for his life and uncover the truth hidden behind the game.
The official cast reveal includes five main characters, with Taishi Nakagawa taking on the protagonist, Kaname Sudo. Koki., Mei Hata, Fuju Kamio, and Koji Yamamoto round out the main ensemble.
▼ Kaname Sudo as "The Fire Hammer" (played by Taishi Nakagawa)
▼ Shuka / Shuka Karino as "Queen of Thorns" (played by Koki.)
▼ Suzune / Suzune Kashiwagi as "World Function" (played by Mei Hata)
▼ Ryuji / Ryuji Maesaka as "The Lie Detector" (played by Fuju Kamio)
▼ Flower Shop / Ichiro Hiiragi as "Myriad Flowers" (played by Koji Yamamoto)
The original creators, FLIPFLOPs, also shared their thoughts on the live-action production:
"When it came to the live-action adaptation, we told Director Sori that we hoped he wouldn't get too caught up in perfectly recreating the manga, but instead focus on making the best possible film. Manga and live-action are fundamentally different forms of expression, so a 100% faithful adaptation is impossible. Being too rigid can actually diminish the film's own charm. What they've created is an incredibly exciting 'Darwin's Game' movie, and we're really looking forward to its release!"
The "Darwin's Game" live-action movie is set to debut on March 12, 2027, with more details promised soon. Fans eager for this adaptation should definitely stay tuned!
