Get ready for a brand-new Gundam universe! A new anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO (pronounced "Alex Zero"), has been officially announced and is slated for a 2027 release.
The first official trailer and key visuals have dropped, revealing that the series will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who also handles the series composition. The protagonist, Azumi Ray, will be voiced by Takeo Otsuka.

This is the new series that was previously teased for reveal at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). It shares a worldview with the game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, which was announced at Summer Game Fest in June. Together, the two titles will form a new cross-media initiative called the "RG Project."

The "RG Project" is a new type of Gundam project that combines anime and gaming. While both the anime and the game take place in the same world and share a common history, they will approach the story from different perspectives and time periods, weaving together a single historical narrative through their distinct storytelling methods.
This project aims to reinterpret the core question, "Why does the Gundam need to exist?" in a way that differs from past Gundam series. Director Kenji Kamiyama and sci-fi novelist Toh EnJoe, who is supervising the world-building, have crafted a completely new setting, allowing the anime and game to depict the same world from unique viewpoints.
The anime will serve as a prequel, set about 100 years before the game's story, revealing the origins of this world. The game, on the other hand, takes place after the anime, allowing players to personally participate in this history, making new choices in the wake of established events and experiencing what it feels like to "intervene in the world."
The creators hope to deliver the experience of "watching a story" through the anime and the experience of "entering the world and changing history" through the game, allowing both viewers and players to piece together the same world history from their own starting points.

The stage for *Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO* is a future where human civilization has achieved unprecedented prosperity. Humanity has acquired three technologies from beyond the solar system known as the "Three Great Revelations":
Gravity Control
Faster-Than-Light (FTL) Communication
"Materialization" technology, which can give physical form to images
With these three breakthroughs, humanity rapidly expanded its influence throughout the solar system.
However, less than a decade after its discovery, the interstellar object that brought these technologies suddenly went haywire, spawning an aggressive, self-replicating life system. Humanity dubbed this unknown ecosystem the "Apocalypse." After a fierce three-month battle, the front line stalled in Earth's satellite orbit, forcing humanity to abandon the planet. This year was designated as A.A. 1 (After Apocalypse).
The story begins in A.A. 45, where a new generation born on the Moon and in space colonies has come to see the Apocalypse as a part of daily life. In this era, a young boy living on the Moon, Azumi Ray, awakens.

Official details have been released for the protagonist, Azumi Ray, and his mobile suit, the Gundam ZERO.
▼ Protagonist: Azumi Ray
A war orphan who lost his parents in the "Apocalypse" attack. He is the dedicated pilot of the Gundam ZERO.

▼ Main Mobile Suit: Gundam ZERO
A cutting-edge experimental unit developed specifically to combat the Apocalypse. It is a new generation of Mobile Suit known as the "Gundam Type."

▼ The Unknown Threat: Apocalypse
A silicon-based lifeform that separated from and proliferated out of an unidentified interstellar object from outside the solar system.

▼ A Message from Director/Series Composer Kenji Kamiyama
When I received the pitch to "create a new Gundam series that is neither Universal Century nor Anno Domini, but a completely new timeline," a ton of questions immediately flooded my mind. With no Earth Federation or Zeon, how should the new factions be established? How should the concept of Newtypes be redefined? What about Minovsky Particles? And where did the war itself go?
I spent my days constantly thinking about what makes a Gundam a *Gundam*, and that period wasn't exactly a walk in the park. Then it suddenly hit me: "Getting the chance to build my favorite Gundam from the ground up in the Reiwa era... isn't that awesome?"
With that mindset, I kept creating, and before I knew it, a really interesting Gundam was born. And that is *Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO*.
