Bandai Spirits' TAMASHII NATIONS collectors division has announced the latest addition to their popular "Soul of Chogokin" die-cast toy series: the "GX-101S Daitetsujin 17 & 18 Graviton BOX", slated for release in March 2027.
"Daitetsujin 17" is a classic tokusatsu series created by Shotaro Ishinomori, which first aired in 1977. The titular robot protagonist, "Daitetsujin 17 (ONE-SEVEN)", was originally the 17th combat robot created by the supercomputer BRAIN to eradicate humanity. However, ONE-SEVEN formed a bond with a young boy named Saburo Minami, turning against BRAIN to protect mankind. Its brother unit, "Daitetsujin 18 (ONE EIGHT)", was developed as a successor to counter 17. Like 17, ONE EIGHT possessed an independent mind but was long controlled by BRAIN after being implanted with a Satan Circuit. After numerous clashes with 17, the Satan Circuit was finally destroyed, and ONE EIGHT became a powerful and reliable ally.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of "Daitetsujin 17," the "GX-101S Daitetsujin 17 & 18 Graviton BOX" bundles the previously released "GX-101 Daitetsujin 17" and "GX-101X Daitetsujin 18" figures into a single set, each including their full range of accessories.
The "Soul of Chogokin Daitetsujin 17" is meticulously re-engineered with Bandai's latest technology, faithfully recreating its various transformation modes while boasting enhanced detail and improved proportions. Accessories include the Shigcon Jet and Shigcon Tank, which can be stored within its feet. The abdomen and leg sections feature deployable mechanisms to replicate its signature "Graviton Beam" attack, as well as missile and smoke launcher deployment. In a nod to the original Chogokin toy, a separate Graviton Unit is included, which, when inserted into the abdomen, illuminates ONE-SEVEN's eyes and activates sound effects.
The "Soul of Chogokin Daitetsujin 18" stands approximately 18 cm tall and incorporates die-cast metal parts, giving it a substantial, retro feel with its metallic silver-white finish. Its elbows and hips utilize pull-out joints to expand the range of articulation, and its chest can open to reveal a multi-launcher missile system. Accessories include various posing hands and two types of backpacks to recreate its flight mode with deployed wings. Furthermore, an "Electro Filter" part, designed to attach to Daitetsujin 17's head, is included, allowing collectors to recreate both their initial battles and later team-up scenes.
