Robert Downey Jr. recently made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) sporting a jacket adorned with mysterious symbols. What initially appeared to be a stylistic nod to Doctor Doom was later discovered by eagle-eyed fans to be a set of decipherable Latvian runes.

The same runes had previously appeared on Latvian coffee packaging distributed at an SXSW London event , providing Popverse reporter Grant DeArmitt with a crucial baseline for comparison to gradually decipher the jacket's message. While the script largely corresponds to the English alphabet, some words are phonetically re-spelled—for example, "coffee" appears as "kavi"—requiring further interpretation.
While a segment of the jacket's runes remains undeciphered due to incomplete imagery, the translated portions confirm a series of ominous declarations from Doctor Doom, offering further clues about the character's stance in "Avengers: Doomsday." The film's official synopsis indicates that heroes from three distinct universes will be thrust into a deadly conflict, collectively confronting an unprecedented existential crisis.
"Avengers: Doomsday" is slated for release on December 18, 2026.
