"The New Mutants," released in 2020, was a critical and commercial disappointment, ultimately becoming the final film in Fox's "X-Men" cinematic universe.
Legendary artist Bill Sienkiewicz, who worked on "The New Mutants" comic series, recently spoke about his regret over the film's inability to launch a franchise. He believes that with Marvel Studios rebooting the "X-Men," a new adaptation of "The New Mutants" is almost inevitable.

"I don't know if this is spilling the beans or not, but I did talk to director Josh Boone about a second film," Sienkiewicz revealed when discussing the planned sequel. He added, "We really wanted the first film to succeed. I loved the idea of turning 'The New Mutants'—or any superhero movie, for that matter—into a horror film. Unfortunately, due to the Disney acquisition and the pandemic lockdowns, the film's release was repeatedly delayed."
He further recalled, "I remember visiting the set in Medfield, Massachusetts, which was also a location for 'Shutter Island.' The whole experience felt very surreal. But when I met the cast, I mean, they were all incredibly, incredibly talented people."

"Watching the chemistry between them, I truly felt like their great-uncle, or uncle, or whatever you want to call it—like I was looking after my nieces, grand-nieces, and nephews. I don't have children, but I developed a very strong protective feeling towards the entire cast."
Sienkiewicz continued, "Seeing Anya, she was just perfect as Illyana, as Magik, and now she's become a true superstar. So, if they ever decide to reboot this story in some form, I'd be very curious to see which actors they choose."
"However, I'm also very certain that Warlock absolutely has to be included. He was originally slated to appear in the second film, but unfortunately, due to all the circumstances at the time, it never happened. If they do remake it, I would absolutely be willing to be fully involved."
Director Josh Boone had previously confirmed that Warlock was indeed planned for the sequel, with Sacha Baron Cohen reportedly considered for the role.
