Nearly seven years after its predecessor, the next installment in the "Jumanji" series is set to hit theaters later this year. This morning, distributor Sony Pictures unveiled the first trailer.

Jake Kasdan, who helmed the previous two films, returns to direct. He also co-wrote the script with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who penned the earlier installments. The film is slated for a prime Christmas Day release in North America on December 25th.

The ensemble cast sees the return of franchise regulars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Alex Wolff, and Karen Gillan. New additions to the cast include Marin Hinkle and Burn Gorman.

In a new twist, the game avatars played by Johnson, Hart, Black, and others will encounter the real-world human players for the first time outside the game. This comes after someone accidentally releases all the game's heroes and villains into the real world.
