Tom Holland's "Spider-Man 5" Director Reportedly Revealed: "Brand New Day" Helmer Destin Daniel Cretton Eyed for Return

Following the astounding box office success of Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" this year, Sony and Marvel appear to be laying the groundwork for the next installment. According to a report from Deadline, director Destin Daniel Cretton is poised to return to helm "Spider-Man 5," though an official announcement has yet to be made.

Cretton's potential return to the director's chair comes as no surprise. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is currently nearing a global box office total of $2.5 billion, making it not only the third highest-grossing film of all time but also setting a new record for the "Spider-Man" franchise and holding the top spot for 2026's worldwide box office.

However, Cretton's packed schedule could present a challenge. In addition to a live-action "Naruto" project, he is also involved in the development of Paramount's "Hawaii Five-O" movie adaptation. Meanwhile, "Shang-Chi 2," a sequel fans have anticipated for years, still lacks any clear progress.

While the release date for "Spider-Man 5" remains unconfirmed, Marvel Studios' earliest open slot is currently slated for 2029. Holland has previously expressed his willingness to continue playing Spider-Man, while also beginning to consider how to pass the mantle to the next hero. This has led external media outlets to speculate that "Spider-Man 5" could potentially introduce a live-action Miles Morales.
