Nankatsu Hisa's manga series, The Fable (ザ・ファブル), has already entered its third part, "The Fable: The Third Secret." The series was also adapted into a TV anime in 2024.
This April, officials announced that a second anime season was confirmed for production, kicking off with the highly anticipated "Yamaoka Arc" from the original manga. Late on the 15th, the official announcement revealed a January 2027 broadcast date, alongside a brand-new, dark and atmospheric teaser PV.
The Fable (ザ・ファブル) began serialization in "Weekly Young Magazine" in 2014. The first part concluded in 2020, followed by its sequel, "The Fable: The Second Contact," which wrapped up in 2023. Currently, the third part, "The Fable: The Third Secret," is ongoing.
The story follows a legendary hitman known as "Fable," who was trained in assassination techniques by his Boss from a young age and completed numerous challenging missions. However, fearing "Fable's" identity might be exposed, the Boss orders him to live as an ordinary person in Osaka for a year, strictly forbidding him from killing during this period. Thus, "Fable" assumes the alias Akira Sato and embarks on a completely different life.
The first season of The Fable anime aired from April to September 2024, exclusively on Disney+. The official announcement also confirmed the return of the original production team, including Tezuka Productions for animation, director Ryosuke Takahashi, and series composition writer Yuya Takashima.
The "Yamaoka Arc" in Season 2 is a major climax in the mid-to-late stages of the manga. It primarily focuses on Yamaoka, the second-in-command of the "Fable" organization, whose fearless and sadistic nature sparks internal strife within the assassin group, making him one of protagonist Akira Sato's most formidable foes. This arc showcases extreme darkness and psychological warfare, creating a stark contrast with the series' usual comedic daily life. 
The newly released teaser PV kicks off with an eerie musical score. Besides protagonist Akira Sato, who appeared in the first season, characters like Yoko Sato, Takeshi Ebihara, Boss, and Hiroshi Hamada also make appearances.

Season 2 will delve into the climax of the original manga's first part. However, the first season, partly due to its exclusive Disney+ broadcast, saw lower discussion engagement, and its animation quality was considered inferior to the manga. Whether the second season can turn this perception around and build a strong reputation for this arc remains to be seen.
