Whether Disney can convince Johnny Depp to return to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has fueled years of speculation. Some reports have claimed that Depp refused to come back after Disney distanced itself from him amid his domestic abuse and defamation legal battles, while other rumors suggested the studio remained unsure about keeping him as the lead of the next installment.

After years of rumors, Depp has finally made his interest clear. While promoting his new movie "Ebenezer," the actor told Entertainment Tonight: "If everything comes together in a way that allows the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies to reach a proper conclusion, the only plan I’d want to be part of would be one that gives the franchise a more satisfying ending. I’m ready to work with Jerry Bruckheimer (pictured above, right) anytime, on anything. If it’s with Jerry, I trust him. We have a very deep friendship."
