The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End aired this year, earning praise for maintaining the first season's outstanding production quality. A third season has also been confirmed for October 2027.
But a funeral home in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, recently went viral on Japan's X for a completely unexpected reason. Its name, Aura Family Funerals (Kazokusō no Aura), sounds remarkably similar to Aura the Guillotine and even ties neatly into the series' funeral-themed Japanese title. Once photos hit X, fans immediately began joking that the demons had apparently been hiding out in Gunma all along.

The roadside sign for Aura Family Funerals was what first caught the internet's attention. With its large, easy-to-read lettering, the name feels like something straight out of an alternate-universe version of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
A family funeral is a small, private funeral format that originated in Japan. It is generally attended only by family members, close relatives, and a handful of the deceased's closest friends, usually totaling around 10 to 30 people or even fewer. These ceremonies also tend to be more affordable. Family funerals became increasingly common in Japan following the pandemic and are now one of the country's more widely used funeral formats.
Unsurprisingly, the name drew plenty of attention after the photo was posted. Some users joked, "Is this place run by demons?" while others wondered whether demons even have families. The original poster joined in, imagining the funeral director delivering the notoriously inflammatory line, "But they're already gone, aren't they?" during the service.

Another user joked that guests would probably be greeted by a legion of empty suits of armor from the army of the dead. That would certainly be one way to liven up a funeral.

Naturally, someone also made a parody edit of the anime's logo.

This has to be Frieren's doing: "Aura, go prepare the funeral!"

So Gunma was the demon realm all along.

Jokes aside, Aura Family Funerals was established in Showa 41, or 1966, and operates five funeral halls in Takasaki. Everything from transporting the deceased and arranging the funeral to providing post-funeral support is handled by the company's own staff.
It is actually a well-known local funeral provider, offering not only family funerals but also conventional services, direct cremations, and large-scale funerals.

Still, the company's unexpectedly viral name has fans convinced that Aura has been quietly working here all along. Maybe she did not disappear after all; she just missed the rest of the party's journey.
