First announced in December 2025 as part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, the franchise’s new anime project, Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal (コードギアス 星追いのアスパル), was confirmed this September for a 2027 debut.
On November 5, the production lifted the curtain on its main visual, preview stills, core creative team, lead characters, voice cast, and story synopsis. Limited event screenings are scheduled to begin in 2027, with advance preview screenings planned for January.
The story takes place in 606 D.E. The people of the Roman Empire are suffering under Emperor Phokas’s tyranny as relentless wars break out against neighboring nations.
Aspal, an enslaved boy living in the imperial city of Neapolis, has no memory of his past. One day, he encounters Zoé, a mysterious woman kept alive as only a head. Their meeting raises the curtain on an entirely new story.
Ivan Shibata will voice protagonist Aspal, while Hibiku Yamamura takes on the role of Zoé.
The project also unveiled Chronos, one of the new machines classified as Agalmata.

SUNRISE is credited with the original work and planning, while Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion creators Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi developed the original story. The production team is led by director Kazuya Nomura, with Mado Nozaki handling series composition, Rolua designing the characters, Taro Iwashiro composing the music, and SUNRISE overseeing animation production.
Nomura said he used Aspal’s journey to seriously confront one of life’s biggest questions: “What does happiness truly mean?” Nozaki, meanwhile, described the process of building the series’ world as “a genuine adventure.”
Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal is currently set to launch through event screenings in 2027, preceded by advance screenings in January. After months of keeping details under wraps, the 20th-anniversary project is finally coming into focus. Plenty of mysteries remain, however, and fans will have to stay tuned to see what this new chapter brings to the Code Geass universe.
