Just days after Cartier Films reported that MARVEL’s new "X-Men" movie could cast Morgan Spector as its next Magneto, with Cailee Spaeny auditioning to play his daughter Polaris, the outlet is back with another casting scoop. Drew Starkey (above left), who rose to fame through Netflix’s "Outer Banks," is reportedly among Marvel Studios’ top contenders to become the new Gambit.

This is not the first time Starkey’s name has been linked to the "X-Men" reboot. He was previously rumored to be in the running for team leader Cyclops, but the role ultimately went to Kit Connor. If MARVEL does cast Starkey, he would not be the reboot’s only actor to miss out on Cyclops before landing another mutant role. Asa Germann, who is playing Angel, also auditioned for Cyclops but lost the part before MARVEL offered him Angel instead.

Channing Tatum remains the current big-screen Gambit and is confirmed to return at least once more in "Avengers: Doomsday," which opens in U.S. theaters on December 18. However, Cartier Films reports that MARVEL wants its future Gambit to be closer in age to 25-year-old Inde Navarrette, who plays Rogue, allowing the films to faithfully adapt the pair’s comic-book romance. At 46, Tatum would create a considerable age gap opposite Navarrette.
