Feeling nostalgic for that classic Fighbird transformation? Japanese model kit manufacturer Doyusha is set to re-release its vintage 1991 model kit of Fighbird from the iconic Brave series anime, "The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird," in late December 2020.
"The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird" (太陽の勇者ファイバード), produced by Sunrise, first aired in 1991. It is the second installment in the legendary "Brave Series" trilogy, taking place nine years after its predecessor, "Brave Exkaiser." The story follows the Space Police Force as they pursue the evil energy being Draias and the mad scientist Dr. Jango to Earth. To combat them, the cosmic heroes merge with various machines developed by scientist Dr. Amano, as well as the android protagonist, Katori Yutaro, kicking off an epic battle between good and evil.

In the original series, Katori Yutaro would call upon the Fire Jet (ファイアージェット), which transforms into a humanoid mecha. Katori himself then converts to his android form and integrates with the jet's body, completing the combination into the mighty Fighbird.
This Fighbird kit from Doyusha is a special reissue of the same product that was originally sold back in 1991 when the anime first aired. Despite being a vintage model kit, it features a full transformation mechanism allowing it to convert from Fighbird to its Fire Jet mode, which is an impressive feat. While the parts are molded in only two colors, a full set of stickers is included to replicate the mecha's details. For fans looking to recapture the magic of the original series, this is a release you won't want to miss.
