Renowned streetwear cap brand NEW ERA, known for its exciting collaborations with various popular IPs, is teaming up with Hong Kong artist Chino Lam. On September 17, 2021, they will release a special set, the "Emperor Fin Tuna Bento," to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Lam's original character, Maguro Senpai!
Chino Lam joined BANDAI in 2007, working on graphic design, toy exhibition design, and illustration. Drawing inspiration from the essence of Japanese graphic design and exploring Japanese calligraphy, he later created the "Soybean Sprouts Aquatic" and "Soybean Sprouts Zoo" series, as well as "Shan Hai GANG," which reinterprets traditional Chinese mythical beasts based on the ancient text "Classic of Mountains and Seas." His iconic character, Maguro Senpai, is particularly beloved by a wide range of toy collectors and sofubi enthusiasts.
This special set, designed with a Japanese bento box as its overall concept, includes a Maguro Senpai sofubi figure. This particular figure sports a miniature 9FIFTY baseball cap and features an "Emperor Fin Tuna" color scheme, with its glossy belly meat as captivating as ever. Maguro Senpai also comes wielding a black sashimi knife. The accompanying NEW ERA 9FIFTY black baseball cap showcases embroidered Maguro Senpai, golden Soybean Sprouts Aquatic, and NEW ERA logos. Furthermore, the patterns on the red satin lining are full of authentic Japanese flair. As an added bonus, purchasing this set offers a chance to receive a pair of limited-edition wooden chopsticks engraved with both brands' logos.
