LEGO Bricktober 2021 Unboxed: A First Look at the Exclusive Fairy Tale GWP Sets!

LEGO fans, it's that time of year again! The highly anticipated "Bricktober" gift-with-purchase promotion is back, and we've got a full unboxing for you. This week, we're diving into the complete 2021 Bricktober collection, breaking down the release schedule and all the details on these fantastic sets. Let's get started!

Bricktober, a portmanteau of "Brick" and "October," is one of the most exciting annual events for LEGO collectors. Throughout the month, four unique promotional sets are released over four consecutive weeks, available as a gift with a qualifying purchase. This year's theme is "A Magical World of Fairy Tales"! While availability and purchase requirements vary by region, the promotion typically requires a minimum spend on sets from themes like LEGO City, Friends, Ninjago, Duplo, or Monkie Kid at participating retailers.

As mentioned, there are four sets to collect. The Bricktober 2021 lineup includes "Hansel and Gretel," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Little Red Riding Hood," and "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland." Now, let's follow the Toy People editors as we take a closer look at each one.

▼ Unlike the individually boxed sets from last year and the year before, our review samples arrived in this single, premium-looking black collector's box.

▼ From a distance, it really looks like a collection of four storybooks you can pull from a slipcase!

▼ But nope, the whole thing opens from the top.

▼ Here's a look at all four promotional sets.

▼ Taking the Hansel and Gretel set as an example, each pack includes the parts, building instructions, and an adorable LEGO-style storybook. So cute!

▼ All built! Each of the four sets brilliantly condenses the classic elements of its fairy tale into a micro-scale vignette. The storybook-shaped base perfectly captures the concept of bringing these worlds to life, and despite their compact size, they are instantly recognizable.

● Hansel and Gretel
Release Window: 10/01 – 10/07

This super-miniature 4×4 candy house is packed with sweet details, from the chocolate door to the tasty-looking chimney. The garden outside is a charming touch, and the red and blue microfigures clearly represent the titular siblings.

▼ The four corners of the book base even use gold-colored parts, giving it the premium feel of a hardcover storybook!

● Jack and the Beanstalk
Release Window: 10/08 – 10/14

Next up is another household name. It's amazing how they've managed to depict the town, the giant's castle in the clouds, and the sky-high beanstalk in such a small space. The use of a string element for the vine is a clever touch, and key story elements like the hen and the axe are all present. We love the cloud pieces—so cute!

● Little Red Riding Hood
Release Window: 10/15 – 10/21

Spin this model around, and you'll find the Big Bad Wolf disguised as Grandma in bed. His barely-hidden claws are a comical detail.

● Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Release Window: 10/22 – 10/28

The final set focuses on the iconic Mad Tea Party, featuring a rotating circular table laden with desserts. The teacups, teapot, and two-tiered cake stand are colorful and delightful, and you can even spot nods to the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit.

▼ The dessert table actually spins! You can also spot a cute ladybug tile.

▼ Let's end with a few more beauty shots of the collection!

▼ And don't forget—the roof of the candy house opens up to reveal the witch and her oven inside!
